The initial feel for our Folksy Garden Party: It had to be laid back. It had to be beautiful. It had to have character and texture. It had to be abundant and delicious - A table fully stocked with glorious cakes and flowers! A dear friend, Jenny Odell, opened up her home to us for the whole book shoot AND the Folksy Garden Party.
All my decisions for ingredients and methods are based on optimum FLAVOUR. My recipes are not the "quick fix, 3 ingredients, done in 5 minutes" kind. The methods are extensive, but the results are totally worth it! I strive for beautiful flavour and balance, not just a shot of sugar.
For 3 years I have wanted to participate in this market, so it really was a dream come true! The selection process is quite thorough and intense with a few different rounds in order to sift out the best local artisan in each specific field. They exclusively want local, handmade quality, creativity and originality.
There is a very hefty reason behind WHY I insist on creating DELICIOUS cupcakes in Cape Town as opposed to overly sweet, flavourless, fondant crazy cakes... I'd rather go for something balanced, full of flavour, made with top quality ingredients that will satisfy my dessert craving far better than a heap of flavourless sweetness. I started baking things that I actually WANT to eat.
Hi! I’m Aurelia 🙂 I live in the most beautiful city – Cape Town, South Africa. I studied architecture, but I’ve been a professional home baker for 4 and a half years. All recipes here are originals from my bakery.
I love my hubby, puns, singing in harmonies, my cat, butternut and doughnuts!
